Doug & Carolyn’s Story
Family and tradition are values that Doug and I have always held close. We watched my parents, Reford and Helen Gardhouse, live by their motto: “If you live in a community, you contribute to the community.” They believed our hospital was a vital part of that community. They not only donated but also volunteered on the hospital board and in the gift shop and I followed their example, and began volunteering as well.
For them, including a gift to the hospital in their will was a continuation of their commitment to Milton and the hospital. When Doug and I moved back to Milton in 1970, we saw the growth in town, then and now and how badly all the services at the hospital were needed. Our own family has used the hospital many times, from the maternity ward to surgeries, the ER and lots of diagnostic imaging.
“We believe it’s essential our hospital meet the needs of everyone who lives here and we want to support that. We trust the hospital to continue this work into the future. Including a gift in our will wasn’t a difficult choice; it was simply what we felt was right.”
