A gift for the future – Jenny O’Brian’s story
For over three decades, Markham was home for Jenny and her family before they relocated to Milton 11 years ago. Newly retired and eager to connect with her new community, Jenny joined our team as a volunteer—discovering a welcoming environment and a wonderful way to meet new people.
Today, Jenny’s deep dedication to Milton District Hospital goes far beyond her own experiences as a patient. Instead, it is inspired by the exceptional compassion and care she has consistently witnessed from our hospital team. Over the past 11 years, Jenny has contributed her time in various volunteer roles, become a loyal monthly donor, and most recently, made a special contribution to help fund new palliative care beds for our growing community.
Her commitment to the hospital’s future doesn’t stop there. Jenny and her husband have thoughtfully included Milton District Hospital in their wills, ensuring that the vital care provided here every day, continues for generations to come.
Reflecting on her family’s good health, Jenny notes:
“Sometimes when we’re healthy, we forget about the needs of our local hospitals. However, that’s the time when we should be most engaged in contributing to this cause, which could one day be a necessity for my family and friends.”
Though she humbly laughs that they “certainly aren’t rich,” Jenny explains that making a planned gift allows them to invest in the health and well-being of the extended community—and anyone who might one day need care.
For Jenny, it is all about the big picture: by taking care of others, you give yourself the greatest gift of all.
