Thanks to the generosity of donors, Milton District Hospital welcomed the da Vinci Surgical System, marking a major milestone in surgical care for our community. This advanced robotic technology allows surgeons to perform complex procedures with enhanced precision, smaller incisions, and improved recovery experiences for patients.
This world-class innovation found in fewer than 20 hospitals across Canada, thanks to your support. What once required travel to larger urban centres can now be accessed right here in our community.
Patients facing prostate cancer — one of the most common cancers affecting Canadian men — have access to advanced, minimally invasive surgery close to home.
The system will also be used to treat renal and colorectal cancers, expanding access to minimally invasive care for even more patients. In the future, this technology could also assist in treating endometrial cancer.
“Waking up after the surgery, the nurses were asking me how I felt and my level of pain. Much to my surprise, there was no pain at all, not even at the incision sites. I was up and about on day one and released early the next day, still mindful that it had been a fairly major surgery.”
