“My family has always viewed our hospital as an important part of our community.” Carolyn McDonell comes from a family that supported Milton District Hospital in many ways. Starting as donors, her dad, Reford Gardhouse, was chair of the hospital board in the 1960’s. Her mother, Helen Gardhouse, volunteered at the gift shop for many years, and Carolyn also volunteers at the gift shop. The Gardhouse’s extended their support by including a gift in their will which is benefitting Milton District Hospital today. Through their gift, they named an inpatient room on the second floor. Carolyn and her husband have also decided to make a bequest to MDHF in their will. She explains, “The demographics of our community have changed so much. We believe that it is essential that our hospital is able to meet the needs of everyone who lives here and we wanted to support that.” Helen Vatistas, Executive Director of Milton District Hospital Foundation is grateful for the contributions that individuals make through bequests. “The bequest that the McDonell’s have made will have an incredible impact. Their generosity enables Milton District Hospital to continue to provide high quality healthcare to our growing community today and for generations to come. This year, MDHF received gifts that were made as bequests many years ago.
